About Us

Philosophy

Beautiful, healthy landscapes and outdoor spaces that are places of rest, fun, and inspiration enrich our lives. They provide uplifting settings to enjoy life, have fun with the people we care about and bring us closer to the rhythms of nature. Science and studies show that being outdoors in the elements is good for our well-being; we evolved in the diversity of nature and we are still deeply a part of it. Working with the nuances of light, sound, reflection, air movement, and perspective, as well as the finest natural materials, our landscapes tell a one-of-a-kind story about a place, time, and its inhabitants. By deeply understanding our clients and their properties through our signature discovery process, we begin to uncover that story.

Our Signature Design Process ensures a successful landscape design every time because it provides a deep level of understanding of the client and site that results in a landscape completely customized to the property and the client.

Meadow - Matteson Landscape Architecture provides successful landscape design that is completely customized to the property and the client.

How We Practice

Environmentally healthy practices

We are practical and far from being purists, but it is usually easy to create landscapes that are good for the environment if you know what adjustments to make. Soil protection, native plantings, pollinator plants, dark sky lighting design, and stormwater infiltration techniques are just some of the examples of an environmentally healing landscape.

Quality and Durability

The key to long-lasting, thriving landscapes begins with all the parts that you don’t see. Preserving and revitalizing soil, careful site grading, storm water system design, tree protection, innovative planting techniques, and high grade building techniques are all hallmarks of our work. The creativity of our designs extend far beneath surface beauty to create long-lasting, quality installations.

Teamwork

It truly takes a team of many individuals to make a project successful. At MLA we collaborate with many excellent engineers, architects, town boards, and various types of contractors in order to execute a successful project. By communicating, focusing on the goal, and honoring commitments we bring our best to the larger team. Having a sense of humor and knowing how to have fun don’t hurt either.

“Anuja and I were discussing our landscaping today and just wanted to send you a quick note thanking you for the excellent work.  We literally couldn’t be happier with all of it.

It goes without saying, but for the record: if we can ever serve as a reference for you, please don’t hesitate to ask.

With that said, we look forward to seeing you soon to finalize the September plantings.  Please let us know your availability and keep up the good work!”
